About Me
Hello! I’m Ms. Hicks, and I am so excited to serve as a school counselor for the 2nd year at Live Oak Learning Center!
I believe every child deserves to feel safe, supported, valued, and understood at school. My counseling philosophy is centered on building strong relationships with students and creating a welcoming space where children feel comfortable being themselves, expressing their feelings, asking for help and knowing they are safe doing all of those things.
As a school counselor, I support students as they learn important skills such as kindness, empathy, emotional regulation, problem-solving, friendship, confidence, responsibility, and resilience. I believe children grow best when they know they have caring adults in their corner who will listen, encourage them, help them discover their own strengths and have someone who believes in them.
My approach to counseling is warm, encouraging, and student-centered. I meet children where they are developmentally and use age-appropriate activities, play, movement, stories, and conversation to help make learning social-emotional skills meaningful and fun. I also believe school counseling is a team effort. I value partnering with families, teachers, staff, and our school community to help every student feel connected and successful.
One of my favorite things about being a school counselor is watching students realize just how capable they are. Whether a child needs help navigating a friendship, managing big feelings, building confidence, solving a problem, or simply needs a safe person to talk to. I am here to support them.
Every child has strengths. Every child has a voice. And every child deserves someone in their corner.
