Dr. Pearce's Corner
Dr. Tiana McCoy Pearce serves as an Assistant Principal at Live Oak Learning Center. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2015. Her M.Ed. Reading (2008) and B.S. Animal Science Production with a minor in Industrial Technology (2005) were earned from Sul Ross State University; she also completed Principal Certification Coursework in Educational Leadership through Angelo State University (2023). Dr. Pearce has been in the field of education for more than 15 years, with experience in RTI and Special Education, the elementary and secondary classrooms, and in higher education. Her classroom experience includes self-contained, ELA, GT, reading specialist/reading clinic, dyslexia specialist, agricultural science, developmental reading, pre-service teacher education, and in-service teacher education. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas were she served as a Graduate Faculty Member and taught undergraduate courses in the College of Education. She also served as Adjunct Faculty and a Graduate Assistant at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where she was recognized as the Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi Outstanding Teaching Assistant in 2015. Her research primarily focused on literacy and children's literature, appearing in professional resources such as the Journal of Interdisciplinary Education and The thirty-sixth yearbook of the Association of Literacy Researchers and Educators. Dr. Pearce served on editorial advisory boards and professional panels and had numerous appointments in honor societies and professional organizations where she held titles and membership at the local, state, and national levels, more recently serving on a team to review Phonics K-3, High Quality Instructional Materials for the Texas Resource Review. When she is not with her school family, Dr. Pearce enjoys time with her husband and daughter. As a family, they enjoy outside activities such as walking, swimming, biking, and gardening, and the Pearces love the Texas Longhorns. Reading and writing are noted beloved pastimes for Dr. Pearce, and she prides herself in being a life-long learner. However, the absolute most enjoyed aspects of her life are being Matt's wife and Mattilyn's mama!
